UTAH WAR 1857-2007
We have been preparing
for this shoot for 150 year! Our first SASS state
championship was organized just 5 years ago. We host 16
clubs in Utah and shooters from a dozen other states.
In the winter of 1857
Utah’s famous winter snows became known to the Army of the
West as they tried to reach the Salt Lake Valley, they
looked forward to our cool, green summers as much as we do
now. We will gather in the Rocky Mountains just outside of
Park City, in the small, historical town of Wanship. We
meeting at the Smith Place, where we greet shootists from
Utah, Nevada, Colorado and Wyoming … Idaho and Oregon …
California, Texas, New Mexico, Montana, Arizona, Nebraska,
Alaska and other foreign parts.
Utah War then as now
was a “local” event with folks coming in from other parts to
get in on the fun. We have plenty of room for shooting,
camping, Dutch Oven cooking and just hanging out having a
good time.
Beehive Bushwhacker,
Utah Rifleman, Ace High Bill, Brazos Cain and Buffalo Juan
have been stalwarts in organizing this posse, along with
Sanpitch Kid, Paleface, Matador Cowboy and JT Wild. The
support of Jackalope Roper, Chaos Kelly, Cinch, Colt Heart,
Uncle Billy and all the other members of this band of
“pioneers and outlaws” has been great. We even have our own
judges and professionals such as the infamous John Henry
Giles, Judge Ebenezer, Doc Nelson, Doc Warner, Dog Woman,
Old Sheriff, Dally and Dos Equis!
There are great times
and great fun happening in Utah in 2007.
Last year we replayed
"Hell to Pay," this year we will replay “Buchanan’s
Blunder”, Utah War, the Western Insurrection. Our shooting
bays are lined out across the high mountain meadow and
snuggled up against the hillside for 250 yards, which gives
us plenty of room to roam. Backed up by supportive vendors
and sponsors such as SASS, Navy Arms, Sportsman’s Warehouse,
SHOOT! Magazine, Redwing Knives, Cobra Derringers, High
Desert Leather, the Ear Shop, Smoker and many others, we are
indeed ready to ride!
We’ll have a couple of
days for a Shooter’s Clinic, which will help us get this
cowboy action shooting thing down, whether new shooter or
“experienced, with each student shooting 500+ rounds apiece
in two days .
The stages are set by
Porter Rockwell, Lot Smith, General Albert Sidney Johnston,
the Army of the West and others.
With the likes of Madd
Mike and El Jefe Hombre comin' into town we worry some but
not much since we have Cowboy Murderin' Maude, Sugar Cain,
Li’l Bit Younger, Sweet Jenny Lynn, Carrie Ann Ace, Dirty
Alice, Two Gun Dana, Cactus Dixie Rose, Bodacious Moonbeam
and Nellie Blue to show us all we need to know about handlin'
those Army boys and the riff raff they bring with them in
the fastest game in town.
Surrounded by deep
rock miners, We’re just a stone’s throw from old Highway 89
which routes from Park City to Coalville to Evanston
Wyoming—Fort Bridger.
All of us are lookin'
forward to seein' ya on August 4th for the Third Annual Utah
SASS State Black Powder Shoot Out and then on the 9th -11th
of August for UTAH WAR 2007!
